Pine Hills Eco Camp is an exclusive wilderness camp in the heart of Solan with spectacular views of the hills and Instagram-worthy sunsets that melt into silent nights. Its location makes it ideal for all kinds of groups including families, students, corporate houses, teachers, all-boys groups, adventure buffs, all-ladies groups and honeymooners.

The unique rock formations and pathways to the tent site have been sculpted by time, water and wind. Experience the earth’s beauty at its most basic form in this rocky, rugged landscape.

Major General Harwant Krishan (retd) founded the Camp with a three-fold vision: Provide an avenue for adventure and learning in a fun manner, empower local communities and conserve the environment.

We took the overnight Volvo bus from Delhi. The camp is about 66 kms ahead of Chandigarh, in Solan. After can 8.5 hour journey from Delhi, the punctual porters, the hearty welcome by the staff and the sylvan landscapes instantly refreshed us. Then we saw the brightly coloured and creatively named tents, met the reticent but smiling locals, and felt the moist low-lying clouds on our cheeks — it felt like a slice of paradise!

Our Tents
Who doesn’t like the feeling of staying in an open meadow or a midnight stroll under the stars before retiring to bed in a tent? Our tent was well equipped with comfortable bedspreads and fluffy quilts. It had a magical view, nothing short of splendid. We ordered coffee and allowed ourselves to get lost in the view.

What We Ate
The food served to us was wholesome and delicious. We loved tucking into the hearty paranthas and dahi but they also have sandwiches and eggs for the city crowd. For lunch, there were rotis with three kinds of curries, among which we polished off every scrap of the delicious chicken and dal makhni. Don’t worry, Pine Hills didn’t leave out dessert!

Outbound Learning

This module at the Camp is led by senior ranking retired military officers and supported by wildlife experts, trainers, guides and junior instructors. The setting feels both thrilling and relaxing at the same time— a fiesta of action amidst the lush green spread of nature. There are carefully crafted programs for leadership and team building; taught through activities such as Commando Bridge, Teeter Wobble, Net Scramble, Burma Bridge and Ziplining. We tried and enjoyed many of these to the

Jungle Lore
The aim of the Jungle Lore capsules is to foster, especially in us city-bred folks, an awareness of the balance of nature and its fragility. We were encouraged to enjoy and celebrate nature unobtrusively, following the Honour Code of the jungle to take back nothing but photographs and memories. Films were screened for an initial introduction to the flora and fauna, including the insects of Himachal Pradesh, followed by “practicals” orchestrated by experienced guides along forest trails. We were blown away by what we learnt during this session.

The trek led by their team was a well planned one, with dense forests, offbeat paths and spectacular views.

While we were trekking, we noticed temples located at great heights—quite fascinating. Our entire trekking experience made us feel more alive than ever and we are glad that the Camp’s team pushed us enough to make us to do it.

You need to stay a week or more to experience the entire range of activities at the Camp. During our short stay, we tried as many as we could, often feeling our hearts nearly pop out of our mouths, filled with a combination of thrill and fear!

You simply have to plan a getaway at Pine Hills Eco Camp; it’s a stay like no other. This trip offers a wonderful buffet of panoramas, activities and cultural experiences – it is bound to leave you rejuvenated. Within just three days we walked through windswept forests, hiked to the top of high cliffs and relished cliff-top lunches. We loved our time here and can’t wait to go back!
