We stumbled upon Polpo in Departures magazine, where award-winning author and food writer Tom Parker Bowles recommended it highly. “Queues might stretch around the door, but you are guaranteed fine food and a seriously good time,” he promised. The next mention of the place came from a London friend who couldn’t stop gushing about the food, and that’s when we picked it as a secret worth sharing!

POLPO is a bàcaro. This is a Venetian word to describe a humble restaurant serving simple food and good, young Italian wines. The wines come in tumblers, and the food is based on ciccheti—small plates served up in Venetian backstreet bars, called bacari.
